Full Itinerary - Salsa Trail Tour

DAY 1 - With a morning departure from Phoenix, we tour east through Queen Creek Canyon to the Salado Ruins of Besh ba Gowah, near Globe.  Besh Ba Gowah is a well preserved reminder of the Salado population that vanished from the Southwest around 1300 AD.  After lunch in Globe, we travel south to the town of Safford to visit Mount Graham, at over 10,000 feet above sea level.  Mt Graham is home to a large array of telescopes along with a terrific view of the surrounding countryside. Tonight we will dine at one of the Salsa Trail restaurants.   Our overnight stay is in Safford.

DAY 2 - This morning in Safford, we have breakfast at the winner of the Salsa Challenge the El Coronado restaurant.  After breakfast, we can visit the San Simeon Chile Company.  From Safford, we visit the legendary Fort Bowie National Monument, with its ruins and scenic hike.  Bowie was a crucial strategic location during the Apache Wars. We continue in the footsteps of the Apache as we tour the sculpted towers and canyons of Chiricahua National Monument and Cochise Stronghold. We enjoy an overnight stay in Bisbee, the one time center of Copper Mining for the entire nation, now an artist colony and a living time capsule.

DAY 3 - This morning offers a chance to walk the streets of Bisbee before our departure to the wine country of Sonoita with a half dozen emerging wineries.  After a visit to Sonoita Winery, we will have a chance to explore the Presidio turned art colony at Tubac.  The San Xavier Mission, also known as the ‘White Dove of the Desert’ is one of the Southwest’s premiere missions and our last stop before a late afternoon return to Phoenix.
