2010 Tour Dates: May 2-9 September 19-26
Day 0 An early evening introduction, orientation and critique session in Henderson, Nevada, with Kerrick James. Time afterward for group or individual dinners. Guests can travel via ground transportation from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, or fly to Las Vegas and drive to Henderson.
Day 1 8 am start for an easy 11 mile kayak trip thru Black Canyon, from Hoover Dam to various hot springs and into Emerald Cave in late afternoon. Overnight in St. George, Utah.
Day 2 Sunrise hike and shoot on slickrock sandstone in Snow Canyon State Park, then a scenic backroads drive to the ghost town of Grafton, with views of Zion to the north. Late in the day we shoot sunset light from Toroweap and camp.
Day 3 Sunrise shoot at Toroweap, followed by shooting sessions in the Vermillion Cliffs area, near Page, Arizona. Due to weather and access considerations, today and tomorrow's time will be spent at areas in the White Pockets and Coyote Buttes area.
Day 4 A continuation of the photo locations in the Vermillion Cliffs area. Overnight in Page.
Day 5 Photo critique session at hotel in Page, superwide photo op of Horseshoe Bend in mid-morning, then drive to Monument Valley's Hunt's Mesa to set up camp with Navajo hosts. Late afternoon light and shooting, dining and camping under the stars.
Day 6 Predawn light over Monument Valley, with views north to Hovenweep and west to Navajo Mountain. Explore the mesa and drive across red sand dunes on return route to Kayenta. Guests will travel a scenic route through Rough Rock and Many Farms to spend the night in Chinle.
Day 7 Canyon de Chelly is a living National Monument that holds both ancient ruins and thriving Navajo homes within its 62 miles of curving sandstone canyon walls. Photo sites such as White House Ruin and Spider Rock Overlook are some of our favorites to explore. Following the session in Canyon de Chelly, our tour winds through the ponderosa pine forests of the Mogollon Rim area on our return trip to the Phoenix metro area.
