The Grand Circle tour can be 5 to 13 days in length. Here is an 8 day tour example.
Day 1- Depart Phoenix this morning for a scenic drive that gains 6000 feet from the desert floor through Flagstaff’s high country. This dynamic section of our tour is the visual equivalent of traveling from Mexico to Canada in just 2 hours. North of Flagstaff, our route enters the largest reservation in the United States, the Navajo Nation with a chance to visit a local trading post on the way to Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. Guests will be met by a Navajo guide for a 2.5 hour of the tribal park . Overnight stay in the Kayenta/Monument Valley area.
Day 2 Depart Monument Valley to visit the famous ‘4 Corners Monument’ where it is possible to stand in Arizona, Colorado, Utah and New Mexico with one foot. From 4 Corners, we travel through Colorado landscape for the first time of the trip to climb the winding mesa road to reach Mesa Verde National Park. Mesa Verde’s sprawling alcove-shaded ruins are ours to explore with favorites like Spruce Tree House and the ladders and passages of Balcony House Ruin, as well as many others. A recent fire actually revealed dozens of nearby ruins that had been completely hidden, suggesting that there may be many more to be found. Guests will be able to walk through the ruins with ranger guided programs during our time in the park. From Mesa Verde, the tour ends for the day in Durango with an overnight stay .
Day 3 – This morning guests board the Durango-Silverton Railway for a 50 mile scenic journey to Silverton. Guests are met in Silverton by their Detours guide to continue over the Red Mountain Pass. This spectacular route goes through ‘Little Switzerland’ in the San Juan range, over the Red Mountain Pass and through Ouray on our way to Moab for an overnight stay.
Day 4– Today offers sightseeing options in Canyonlands and Arches National Parks, along with Dead Horse Point. Time today can be spent in the parks or a choice of a Colorado River float. Overnight stay is in Moab.
Day 5 - Depart Moab for an amazing scenic drive that includes Capital Reef, Boulder and Escalante, on our way to Bryce. Afternoon sightseeing in Bryce Canyon National Park includes an exploration of a 17 mile long canyon rim drive with opportunities for photographs and walks along and below the canyon rim. Overnight stay in the Bryce area.
Day 6– Morning sightseeing in Bryce with a departure for Zion National Park. Guests will tour Zion’s scenic overlooks and have a choice of walking or non/walking options. Scenic favorites like Checkerboard Mesa, Zion Canyon and the Zion Narrows are available to explore. Overnight stay in Zion National Park or Springdale, just outside the park.
Day 7 – Morning sightseeing in Zion, then the tour departs for the North Rim Grand Canyon with an early afternoon arrival. Our route to the North Rim offers a visit to Pipe Springs National Monument.
